The story about my new bag adventure LĀTEI:

Leather bags designed with an architectural perspective. Handmade in the Netherlands, with a high level of finish and an eye for detail.

"Architecture has always been woven through my life. From growing up on a construction site to studying architecture, building has always fascinated me. Now I ‘build’ bags with a long-term vision, just like good architecture."

Latei is the Dutch word for lintel: a type of beam that spans openings such as doors and windows. A construction element that is always there but not always visible. "

LĀTEI is a nod to my past in architecture and a clear metaphor for my design aesthetic and my personality. Being in the spotlight is not my nature, but sometimes I like to show a little more of myself."

KILL YOUR DARLINGS |  28 september 2023 

“Kill your darlings”, I learned at the art academy. And that's what I will do. 

MARIEKE JACOBS is going to stop making bags. Say what?
Yes indeed, bags, not accessories! I will happily continue to make these for you in all the colors of the rainbow! So wallets, phone bags and other products will still be available here in my online shop.

However, anyone who thought I would stop making bags was wrong! I will continue with this wonderful craft under the new name LĀTEI
I've been working on this quietly for a while now. You may have already seen it on Instagram, or if you have visited the studio and looked at my inspiration wall ;) I would like to properly introduce LĀTEI to you later this year. But feel free to take a look at Instagram: atelier_latei

Because sometimes you have to make a clear choice, I am saying goodbye to the bags that I have developed under MARIEKE JACOBS. So if you had your eye on  a bag, this is your chance! I won't be making them like this again. I'm starting with a clean slate with LĀTEI
